Hurricanes, The Pandemic, Social Unrest, The Economy, Oh, and The Election Too…
Hollywood couldn’t have written any better script than the one playing out right now. The big difference is, these things are actually happening…it’s not a sci-fi movie about events that lead up to a post apocalyptic world.
Every facet of humanity, from the likes of The President and his inner circle through billionaires like Musk and Bezos, all the way down to homeless vet’s living in cardboard boxes under the interstates are facing an issue that has the ability of leaving indelible marks on every member of this big blue marble that we live on.
And there are absolutely no answers to any of this in the foreseeable future.
Let’s take a look at what all is going on in the world today…this is not for the faint of heart…you have been warned!
Today is Saturday, October 10, 2020…And Our Gulf Coast is Under yet Another Attack!
In the span of the last six weeks, our gulf coast region has endured a record number of hurricanes and tropical depressions.
Just as some of these areas were abandoned when the pandemic took its grip on the U.S. and were forced to miss most of the tourist season in which they rely on. Mother Nature has found a way to keep those folks boarded up…indefinitely.
Many of these little out of the way places that Americans flock to during the summer months look like those pic’s that you see from the middle east. Crumbled, broken and very disheartening.
And given the recent weather patterns, who knows when it’s going to let up enough to allow at least some basic clean-up and return to normalcy.
Covid-19…Now a Way of Life
A week or so ago, I watched the live coverage of Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as her hearse rolled up to the Supreme Court building carrying her American flag draped coffin.
The scene in and of itself was chilling enough. Then you factor in the number of people present there on the steps of the greatest court in the land and the scene, at least to me, went from chilling to down right horror.
Seeing all of those officials from the court each wearing their protective masks as they should be, it resembled more of a cult gathering than a gathering to honor a great American.
That’s how it is now. Everyone is, or should be masked. I have witnessed several small children in public places like grocery stores in which they seem to be frightened of people wearing masks. I myself also find it a bit spooky at times but this is now our everyday way of going out to take care of the simple thing’s that we used to take for granted.
Coronavirus has changed us, our children, and to some extent even our pets. At this point, after nearly a year of daily Covid-19 death tally’s and revised restrictions and closings I for one have to wonder…will there ever be a return to what we think of as normalcy?
Are We on The Verge of Another Civil War?
So, let’s review.
The weather has turned deadly. We already have determined that the virus is even more than deadly.
And now we have a national catastrophe taking form between “Black Lives Matter” and the never ending onslaught of racial inequality that has apparently has never let up since the 60’s. We also know that too is deadly.
So far, this pattern just isn’t doesn’t fit with that old motto…
“America…Land of Opportunity!”
Indeed.
The Jobless, The Homeless, and The Penniless…Picture of The Average American Family
There’s nothing quite like owning your own home, and pulling up that driveway to that home after an awesome day at the company you built from scratch. Ah, life is good. I have a home, a family that is healthy, a business that is thriving, and money isn’t a problem…that’s when I wake up.
That successful scenario is as far from reality as it could possibly be in 2020.
Our once great nation is suffering from record numbers of unemployment, the government can’t seem to help with the citizens that are either about to, or already have lost homes, and businesses. This is where I begin to get nauseous.
We live in the greatest country on earth…(despite all the present efforts to dispel that) yet our government is more concerned with hoping to God that they get re-elected in a few weeks so they can keep their six and seven figure paycheck’s coming…while someone like me for example tries to figure out how to keep the power on in my home so my elderly mother can keep her nebulizer plugged up and continue her breathing treatments for COPD.
And don’t even get me started about trying to keep food on the table for myself, my mother and two small children.
I’m two months behind on my rent, two months behind on my power bill, nothing in savings, and lost my job in August.
Have yet to collect any unemployment.
That’s the picture of this American family.
But Let’s All Get Pumped-up About The Election!
First of all, I absolutely realize that I am not the only American citizen that is under a strain right now. I also know that there are people far worse off than me and my family. So I’m not whining about my situation. Frustrated, yes. Whining, no.
I just get really raw when I think about doing my civic duty. That is going to vote November 3rd.
If Trump is re-elected I may or may not see any financial relief as they would rather bully each other in Washington, point fingers, and refuse to do anything for the American people.
On the other hand, if Joe Biden wins, it will be springtime before anything can be accomplished by the new administration. The economy, and more importantly the American people just can’t hold out that long.
So…me get excited about an election? Not likely.
I think I will just make November 3rd “National Find a Job Day” and produce my own results at the end of the day!
